David Lloyd Clubs are known for being more than just a gym. They offer premium facilities, including state-of-the-art gyms, swimming pools, tennis courts, luxury spas, and a huge range of group fitness classes. Whether you're into HIIT, yoga, Pilates, or spin, there's something for everyone.
One of their most exciting innovations I think is Blaze. This is David Lloyd’s answer to boutique-style HIIT training, combining cardio, strength, and combat moves into one seriously effective workout.
What is David Lloyd Blaze?
Blaze is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) class designed to torch calories, boost fitness, and build strength. It’s set in a cool, dimly lit studio with neon lights and energising music, and I always feel it's giving night out vibes more rather than workout vibes!
What do you do at David Lloyd Blaze classes?
The session is split into three zones:
🔥 Treadmill: This truly gets my heart rate soaring as it includes sprints, inclines, and endurance runs - and the pace is often dictated by the person taking the session.
🏋️♀️ Strength: Lift, squat, and press using dumbbells, kettlebells, and bodyweight exercises are all included to build that strength.
🥊 Combat: I love releasing my inner fighter with boxing drills, punch bags, and bodyweight movements - it always helps me if I'm stressed. I go there full of stress sometimes and I come out feeling invigorated and calm.
How long do David Lloyd Blaze classes last?
Each session lasts 45 minutes, and you'll rotate between the three stations, guided by expert trainers who keep you motivated (and make sure you don’t slack off!).
Why is Blaze So Effective?
Blaze isn’t just another fitness class—it’s been designed to deliver serious results. Here’s why it works:
✅ Burns Calories Fast: Thanks to HIIT, I keep burning calories for hours after the class.
✅ Full-Body Workout: Cardio, strength, and combat means that I get to work almost every muscle in my body and I can tell because I feel very well exercised after each session (hello DOMs)
✅ Improves Fitness Levels: I know I talk about this being an intense workout but whether you're a beginner or a seasoned gym-goer, Blaze is great because it pushes you to progress to your next natural level of fitness.
✅ Fun & Addictive: I just think the music, lighting, and energy make it one of the most motivating workouts ever. I love to get in to a great pump to a great beat with people who have great energy and Blaze delivers all of that.
What Should I Expect in My First Blaze Session?
I have been going to Blaze for numerous years and I have seen all ages groups and all shapes and sizes there so please don't be intimidated by it - you can do it. Here is what to expect:
💪 A Warm Welcome: Trainers will explain everything, so you know exactly what to do and please do have some one to one time with them if needed, they're always super helpful.
🎵 Amazing Atmosphere: Music and lighting create an electrifying vibe.
🔥 Sweat (A Lot!): It’s tough but totally worth it.
🙌 Supportive Trainers: The trainers push me but I've also seen them modify exercises for people if needed. The main aim is to push you to your next level of fitness but they will also work with you. Yo really get out what you put in.
The great thing about Blaze is that, even though there is a pace dictated, you can go at your own pace. You’ll be encouraged to challenge yourself, but there’s no pressure to be the fittest person in the room!
How Often Should I Do Blaze?
For best results, aim for 2-3 sessions per week. It’s intense, so mixing it with lower-impact workouts like yoga or swimming can help with recovery.
What Should I Wear to Blaze?
🩳 Breathable workout gear (you’ll get very hot).
👟 Supportive trainers (for running and strength work).
💧 Water bottle (hydration is key).
