Hello everyone, now if you read my last post about Tom from McFly's romantic proposal, you'll have seen my little introduction to my thoughts on Valentines Day. Don't worry if you missed it, you can read it here... But basically, I said that I love Valentines day, single or not. I just like the idea of the day (even thought most people think it's a bit of a con) I do think it's a cute way to show your appreciation towards your loved ones, whether thats your urm cat, your Mum, your siblings or your actual boyfriend/girlfriend. I just like the fact that it's a day full of love, even if you spend it with your friends. I am also a bit of a romantic, well, a lot, and I blame Disney and Romantic films for making me be such a geeky romantic stereotypical girl. But, I suppose everyone has an idealised idea of romance because of the media, films and more (particularly us girls). So, because even if you hate Valentines day, it is just around the corner, I thought i'd make it simple for you all and make my own Valentines Day gift guide, whilst also making me slightly depressed that 1. I have no one to buy for this year (I do prefer giving to receiving gifts) and 2. I have no one to celebrate to day with/get gifts from. BUT, you can always refer to this gift guide and treat yourself - I don't want anyone to be unhappy on Valentines day! Now, Vday isn't just about gifts, of course, for me, I like the whole 'lets watch a film on Vday' or go to the cinema, or go and get wined and dined. Yeah here we go again, me and my silly love for anything to do with romance. I am so easily pleased though when it comes to love. I'm babbling on now, so below I will talk you through my gift guide.
Cushions - Etsy.com/ Candles - I want one of those.com/ Ring - Daniella Draper/ Princess Cup - Iwantoneofthose.com / Tips and Tricks - Benefit/ Silver bangles - Daniella Draper/ Heart chocolates - Hotel Chocolate/ Pink heart bracelet - Links of London/ Champagne Gift Set - Harvey Nichols/ Heart Bath Set - Lush/ Teddy - Disney Store/ Evian Heart Water - Harvey Nichols/ Gold Ring - Etsy.com
Cushions - I found these on etsy.com which if you haven't used it, is a vintage version of eBay basically. They sell some incredible Valentines stuff such as jewellery, I've fallen in love with nearly every item on there and it's all basically under £10.00 as well as most of it is handmade, I think that makes it really cute and romantic as well. I thought these cushions were so cute to add for someone who likes interior/if you have a house together and want your initials on the sofa - so cute.
Candles- Every girl loves candles (I have so many in my bedroom, and I haven't ever even lit any of them, oops) , you can get gorgeous ones from The White Company (a personal fave shop of mine for all things white and pretty) or Molton Brown or Jo Malone, but these options are very pricey so I found these cute loveheart ones from www.Iwantoneofthose.com this website has the coolest gift ideas on it to be honest.
Jewellery - Ah the obvious gift, so easy but so appreciated. So many places do incredible jewellery on V-day, my personal faves are Azendi, Links of London and Pandora. Whilst browsing the internet, I found that Pandora have the most reasonable priced and probably nicest pieces for Valentines day. They do a gorgeous stackable little silver ring made up of loads of tiny hearts for only £30.00 which I think its quite good. I'd probably cry if I got that anyway. Another incredible jewellers if you're wanting to spend a bit more than Pandora but less than the likes of Links of London is Daniella Draper, my friend introduced me to her website as her boyfriend bought her some incredible items from there, on the photo the two bangles which have words inscribed into them are from there. She does the plainest most perfect jewellery and you can choose what you want to say on it, but it isn't tacky, it's all so classy. If you want to go cheap and simple, try etsy.com for beautiful jewellery, i've honestly seen some of my favourite pieces on jewellery on there over the past few days, just type in 'silver heart necklace' or 'silver heart earings' everything is so simple and classy and under £10.00 usually which is insanely good quality.
Chocolate - Aahh, Chocolate, wine and flowers. A girls best friend and worst enemy. Chocolate of course, well for me 100% as I am a chocoholic. Thorntons and Hotel Chocolate do some incredible cute little gifts.

Bath stuff/Pamper gifts - Ahh places like LUSH do great little gift sets including loads of yummy bath things, and they come really nicely wrapped. I think the sets are quite over priced though, they range from £9-30 for their valentines ones, I always find with Lush that if you just buy some yummy products separately and then at the till pay like £3.00 to get them wrapped, it always works out so much cheaper. Places like Benefit have even got onto the Valentines day bandwagon now and are doing special Valentine's make up sets which I think are nice, they are expensive and not very sentimental, but for the make up lover I think these would go down a treat.
Other stuff - Teddy Bears, Champagne, Flowers. Simple yet effective gifts. I don't know many girls that wouldn't be impressed with flowers delivered to her door, or even better, hand delivered by her man. The Disney Store always do the most adorable teddy bears, as do Clinton Cards - I die for a Tatty teddy from Clintons, beyond cute.
Most people just say 'I love you' or even I like you A LOT. With a simple card, my favourite card shop of all time is a little one in Leeds called Scribbler, lucky for you, they also have a website http://www.scribbler.com and I picked out my favourite cards above. I love the ones that are jokey, but do still say 'look, i really like you'. Moonpig is also another favourite of mine for cards, especially because you can make them really personalised and put photos on them.
Remember, Valentines day isn't just about gifts, it's about showing your love to anyone, whether that's family, friends or that special someone. I'm going to write a 'things to do on Valentines day' post later on this week so stay tuned.
Lots of love, Em x

DeleteLovely post. I agree with your thoughts on valentines day. It seems to be looked down a lot as a con or a waste but it sure is as great time for giving, and Yes to receive is a nice feeling too. Loving the cushion idea! x

DeleteI feel the same way about Valentine's Day. I just love the idea of showing people that you love them - boyfriend or not! In my family, we have always exchanged cards and stuff, so it's more of a family holiday for me. Unfortunately, my boyfriend is of the belief that Valentine's Day is just another corporate holiday....alas. But I am cooking him a special meal on the 14th, so he will be celebrating it in some way or another!

Aw thanks glad you like it lovely! Yeah they're gorrrgeous! hahah oohh i see, not a bad thing to hold out for. good luck hehe xxx
DeleteI love the last line that you put on... I really respect valentines day but I hate how you feel pressured to buy and recieve big gifts. Personally I am a card kind of girl. But I wouldn't sniff at any of these beautiful gifts espeically the Evlan Water bottle :) x
ReplyDelete:) Yeh, it's definately nothing to do with gifts really, unless they're sentimental :) xxxxx I love the bottle!
DeleteI agree with Lacey above, I think it should be less about gifts, and more about the reasons for Valentines day. Sure, go for a meal because that way you can talk, but I do think Valentines day has become so commercialized.
ReplyDeleteSaying that though, I still love your post and your blog :) Plus those chocs are cute :)
