Hello hello hello! I am so excited to be writing this post after the most amazing two days. On the 22nd December, I turned 21 and whilst I didn't really want to turn 21 (can we rewind please or send me to Neverland with Peter Pan), I was overwhelmed with how amazing turning 21 actually was. I wanted to talk to you about the outfits, the make up and the past few days! Let's talk about turning 21...
I got my make up done by Megan Bulmer, an amazing make up artist who works at Charlotte Tilbury, so most of my make up is Charlotte Tilbury. The lip colour is my favourite, it's Charlotte Tilbury in Penelope Pink with the lip cheat lip pencil. I got my brows shaped at the Shavata brow studio in Harvey Nichols (absolutely love the shape and tint) and my hair coloured by, of course, the fabulous Ben at Umberto Giannini (once again, I couldn't be happier with it! You've gotta go visit this hair wizard in Manchester!) - the actual style is natural, I just washed it and left it to dry naturally.
At 7pm, one of my girlies arrived with the most beautiful cake - made by her, for me. I was overwhelmed.
We nibbled on chocolate strawberries and giggled over vino before we set off to the party venue
I painted my nails with Claire's Accessories nail varnish and I was really impressed with the results.
We arrived and I started the night by making a birthday wish
We drank champagne and ate macaroons (and cupcakes) in a beautiful bar with views of the whole city...
the champagne didn't last long
neither did the red velvet cupcakes
Me and my girls started the night normally...
and then the fizz went to our heads
It was pretty great to be reunited with around 20 of my most favourite people ever all in one room after 5 months of travelling! I was ecstatic to say the least.
This is the only photograph of just me - I'm not sure why I'm screwing my face up.
Dress: American Apparel (ludicriously over priced - identical here (£20), here (£14) and similar here (£19), here (£48), here (£9) / Knee-High boots: here, also the same here
We shared lots of giggles
and pouted a lot too.
I had the most amazing night and I truly adore the special people who attended.
The following morning I played around with my new tablet, the Acer Iconia Tab 8 - it's pretty snazzy - you may have seen me tweeting about it (@emshelx) - It was an early (and very generous) Christmas present from Acer (thanks so much) and I pretty much spent my birthday morning watching YouTube on it... (the sound quality is amazing - I'm already addicted!)
A morning spent dipping chocolate... (chocolate for breakfast, of course) and watching YouTube videos is my idea of heaven...
and a few minutes to catch up on blog comments...
We then decided it was time to get ready for the day ahead and I decided to head down the road to York - I really missed good old Yorkshire whilst I was in Canada.
It was chilly (and windy), so I wore my gorgeous new North Face jacket to keep me warm. It certainly did the trick.
Boots: Daniel Footwear here / Jeans: All Saints here / Jumper: Primark similar here / Coat: The North Face here / Scarf: Burberry here / Bag: Zara similar here
I love these Daniel Footwear boots a little bit too much - they're surprisingly so warm and so comfortable too - the perfect Winter boot.
And I felt like the luckiest girl in the world when I opened this scarf on my birthday morning - it even matches my nails.
We wandered around York for the rest of the afternoon
I got a little bit windswept
and then, I got changed and ready for a very important dinner date with my lovely family...
This is my favourite outfit ever and lots of you asked on Instagram (@emshelx) where it's from...
Jumpsuit: Motel here (the best money you'll spend, I haven't taken it off) / Boots: Missguided here (my favourites and in the sale now too!)
After a few photos, we headed to a new little indie Italian which I'd heard rave reviews about
We sipped cocktails
ate garlic bread
and generally nibbled on Italian delights - it was my idea of heaven. Nothing beats good food and great company and trust me, the company was amazing (you can't beat family). Gifts and food are great, but experiences and memories with loved ones always win.
I was lucky enough to be given some beautiful gifts for my birthday - which I will treasure for ever along with amazing memories.
Yup - that beautiful Burberry scarf is officially mine.
It's the sentimental cards with amazing words inside which really touched my heart.
As if I wasn't already having the most amazing two days, a knock at the door and some beautiful flowers were delivered for me... (thank you Nat)
and then, I looked outside, and a brand new Mini (complete with pink mood-lights) had landed on my door step just like magic. To top it all off, my best friend sadly couldn't attend my party but she visited me last evening and dropped off the most meaningful card, with a lottery ticket inside - our lovely catch up really was the cherry on top of an amazing two days (now wish me luck with the lottery ticket!)
You can see a video about what I got for my birthday here:

So there we have it - I hope you liked this post, I really wanted to share my birthday joy with you, I feel like I'm on a total high and I'm never going to come down from it. As I said in my video, I shouldn't need to justify myself, but I am not a spoilt person, this is a once in a lifetime event and I am ever so grateful for the amazing people around me (friends and family) who work insanely hard - I didn't expect anything at all (I'm happy with a cuddle on the sofa and a mug of green tea). For me, happiness really isn't about flashy things, but it's about genuine, lovely, kind people and great memories - if you know me well, you'll know that anyway though. I am so lucky to have realised this year who really matters to me, it's only taken me 21 years but finally, the penny has dropped and I understand who is worth it and who really isn't. I would never take such an amazing two days for granted - so please don't be quick to judge, read my pressure and stress post here before you make an opinion - remember, everyone has a story and you shouldn't judge anyone. I totally appreciate that the past two days have been insane and what dreams are made of.
I'd like to say a huge thank you to every single person who made my day special by tweeting me, texting me, emailing me, facebooking me - you name it, if you wished me a happy birthday, it's more than likely that you totally made my day. I can't thank you enough for being so great! Also, a huge thank you to my incredible family and friends - you're all so thoughtful and kind. I'll never forget the past few days.
Are you looking forward to Christmas day? One sleep! Do you like my presents? Do you like my outfits? How did you spend your 21st/How do you want to spend yours?
Lots of love, Em x
