I am local to Harrogate, it's 15 minutes down the road from my house and I spend most weekends there when I am in the UK. I always feel so lucky that I can actually call Harrogate (and beautiful North Yorkshire) home. I know I like to travel, but my heart will always be in beautiful North Yorkshire (sometimes you have to go away so that you can come back and really appreciate home). If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll know that the famous Betty's tea rooms is one of my favourite places, ever. I feel so lucky that I have three Betty's so close to my home, two in York and Harrogate. When I was invited to try out their new Lady Betty Afternoon Tea, I jumped at the chance... come sit with me whilst we indulge in some delicious, handcrafted treats from Yorkshire's finest tearooms. There's a reason people travel far and wide to come and sample Betty's...
We were taken upstairs to the Imperial Room and handed our menu - little details like a beautiful menu specifically for the new afternoon tea add something special to this experience.
I got a glass of rhubarb champagne to accompany my meal
After chatting to the lovely waitresses (I have never had anything but exceptional service in Betty's - the staff are so polite, well trained and professional) our first course arrived - the prawn cocktail, the avocado was a dream come true, creamy, tasty and the paprika just added that little kick.
You can't go to Betty's and not get tea, Yorkshire is all about tea (even if I do only drink green tea). I went for the Gunpowder green - their strongest green tea of course. You might remember me mentioning my love for green tea (and talking about it's importance!) on my breakfast post.
Next up, a miniature Yorkshire pie and smoked salmon arrived in front of us. I love everything from the presentation to the cuteness and obviously, the taste. The Yorkshire pie was literally heaven and I didn't event think I really liked pork. I like that this afternoon tea comes in stages, it's much nicer than just sitting down and getting the ordinary - it was so nice to have different little courses.
Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, the main part arrived...
We were told that if we needed anymore sandwiches just to let them know. I like that because with afternoon tea I always feel like it's usually a little bit too sweet and not enough savoury but the Lady Betty afternoon tea seems to get the balance just right. Myself and my brother both ordered another ham sandwich each because the ham was just delicious and it would be rude not to have another nibble. The sandwiches were truly delicious, I didn't know that something so small could taste so delicious, all that was missing was a cream cheese and cucumber sandwich, but I'll let them off because the others more than made up for it. I could have eaten just the sandwiches alone all day.
We nibbled
and we sipped.
We chatted and we giggled. There are so many reasons why Betty's is one of my favourite places in the world actually.
My favourite part of any afternoon tea sitting is the scones. I am a Brit through and through so really do love my scones with clotted cream and extra jam. Freshly baked, warm scones are the way to my heart. Last year me and my Mum had the most delicious freshly baked stones when we had a cute little spa day nearby and it brought back some great scone memories.
The scones were probably the smallest scones I've had, but they were still delicious and there's no way I could have fit anymore inside my belly anyway. My Mum's always told me that the best things come in the smallest packages. One of the scones was lavender flavoured - this excites me a lot as most of you know, I own an online store called LVNDR! - I feel like it was meant to be.
The atmosphere was simply beautiful, the happy chatters of other tea sippers and cake eaters, the peaceful melody of the pianist and the clinking of champagne glasses. Betty's is peaceful, lovely and just a great place to spend any morning/afternoon. I'd happily go on a weekly basis.
I wore my current favourite playsuit, available online here. I went for a neutral make up look but obviously wore my trusty MAC whirl lipliner.
We were given some special tea to take away with us and the lovely waitress boxed up everything we couldn't finish so we could take it home. It was no trouble for her at all and the team couldn't do enough for us. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say a bad word about Betty's, it's 100% mine and my families favourite go-to place for a nice breakfast or brunch and I never stop raving about it to people.
I've already decided I'm going to rent this room out one day for a tea party. Who fancies joining me?
Shoes / Jacket / Bag / Dress / Sunglasses
After a quick stroll, it was time to go home. Thanks for having us Betty's, I would highly recommend Betty's for all things delicious, British and the most amazing service ever! They never let me down. Betty's Lady Betty Afternoon Tea is available now and I cannot recommend it enough! You can book afternoon tea at Betty's here.
Have you heard of Betty's? Have you ever visited? Do you love afternoon tea?
Lots of love, Em x
