Exploring Austria; The Wilder Kaiser Region, Tirol!

The past few months have been crazy travel-wise (I'm certainly not complaining). I left Canada then I was in Miami, the Bahamas, Mallorca, Greece and then, I couldn't turn down the chance to visit Austria to end the month. I was kindly invited to check out the Wilder Kaiser region in Tirol and to sample their alpine sports week. I was quite excited actually to put down the bikinis and say goodbye to the beach for once and grab some fresh mountain air. I'd just like to say how sorry I am that it's taken me a few weeks to get this live, I accidentally wiped my memory card so I'm having to do with what I have which is so distressing. Let's go up some mountains!

I met my lovely friend Scarlett the evening before our flight in St Albans, London. I love St Albans because it's not too far from central London but it's full of amazing restaurants and the atmosphere is always great. We went to Craft & Cleaver and indulged on some delicious cocktails and tasty food. The best way to spend an evening pre-flight. I think I'll have to do this more often.

We flew from London to Innsbruck, a place I've always wanted to explore. I wish we got to explore Innsbruck whilst there (when I fly somewhere I always try to do and see as much as possible whilst in that area) but we didn't have much time in Austria and had a strict schedule to stick to so unfortunately couldn't. We were picked up from the airport and driven to Tirol which is over an hour away from Innsbruck.

Vital & Panoramahotel Sonnenhof
We stayed in the cutest hotel, Vital & Panoramahotel Sonnenhof - whilst it wasn't anything like the normal hotel I go for (minimal, white, Pinteresty... yep I did just use that as a word to describe something haha) it was authentic, cute and so different. I loved it.

We quickly went outside to explore.

It was quite damp when we arrived but not too cold.

That evening we had a traditional Austrian buffet with the loveliest bunch of people. I fell in love with Austrian food, I was quite worried that it would all be very stodgy but I just added a lot of salad to my plate to make it less so. Let's just say, Austrian food is so comforting and yummy.

The next morning we arose bright and early and headed up the mountain, unfortunately it was a really cloudy day so the views weren't as perfect as they should have been.

We went up in the cable car

and arrived at Horn Park.

It's like the Austrian version of Go Ape but much better. I climbed through the clouds and did not let the rain stop me from getting high up into the trees! There's something so refreshing about putting on all your favourite gym kit and just exploring/adventuring.

We then went on a wander

This trusty backpack (online here) (you may remember it from my moving out of my comfort zone personal blog post) came in handy throughout the trip!

I wore all adidas for the trip.

Trousers / Trainers here, here and here!

After zip lining through the trees and climbing up mountains, we sat down for some lunch - annoyingly it was a very wet day so we decided to sit inside instead.

I went for a cheese and chicken salad and it was absolutely incredible

We honestly ate so much amazing food during this trip.

In the evenings, we went to local areas for more Austrian food - I could get used to this as I loved all the gorgeous little houses and obviously, the food.

This place was seriously cute

This drink was so refreshing

We started with pancake soup, traditional to Austria apparently - it kind of tastes like Sunday roast inside a bowl.

For main, we had a BBQ. I love BBQ'd food.

We went outside to catch the sunset

We finally got the chance to see the mountains a little bit better - still with snow at the top.

The sun began to set

This is my favourite time of the day, when the sun is setting and the light just falls on everything so beautifully.

We stood as the sun set and toasted to Austria!

The next morning we finally had some proper sunshine. The hotel looked like a different place when we woke up.

We finally saw the mountains in all their glory.

We grabbed some e-bikes and set off up the hilly roads as we went mountain biking for the day

Once we'd cycled, we went up in the cable car to the top of the mountain - part of the group then mountain biked all the way back down but we decided to stay up there for a bit longer

To my utter delight, there was a trampoline in the mountains! What a genius idea! I absolutely adore trampolining so this was far too exciting for me.

We bounced until we had no bounce left in us

and then took in the beauty of Austria.

I had a quick change, my new Michelle Keegan dress by Lipsy. It's so easy to wear and floaty - absolutely perfect for Summer.

We headed down and grabbed our bikes

We cycled to the most beautiful lake - I felt like I was back in Canada with views like these!

I had my LVNDR jewellery on all day of course.

So much beauty.

Playsuit online here or identical here for much cheaper!

I could have spent forever just sat here eating ice cream and chatting with the girls.

The next day we relaxed in the amazing spa and we took a brave dip in the pool outside (bikini online here). I had the loveliest time mixing walking, biking, swimming and spending lots of time in the spa with a lovely bunch of people - eating lots too of course. You can take part in the Alpine Sports Week next year (it's really affordable actually), you can find out more here

Have you ever visited Austria? Do you like the look of it? Do you like active holidays?

Lots of love, Em x
