One evening, I sat at home finishing up my emails to receive an exciting one in my inbox. The email told me I'd been shortlisted as InStyle magazine's top Lifestyle and Travel blogger. I'd be lying if I said I didn't squeal a little Em-style-squeal when my inbox pinged. I never expected this. As I said to everyone: to be shortlisted out of so many incredibly talented people was more than enough and I didn't even think for a second that I'd win. I was more than happy with just the nomination alone. The last award I won was the Best Newcomer award in the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards back when I started blogging, (another pinch me moment!) and I'm more than happy with that and that alone in my trophy cabinet. It was surreal then, when I was in the Maldives and got an email to say I had won InStyle magazine's award... I nearly dropped my cocktail! To be crowned InStyle Magazine's top Lifestyle & Travel blogger is just ridiculously crazy. What matters more to me though than any title, is to promise you guys that I have exciting, new things coming up that I hope you'll love. But mainly? To say thank you - thank you for being there, always. Today I wanted to share some images from the shoot with you because I can finally talk about it and also, give you a little heads up as to what you can see from me in the near future!
I finally got my hands on the December print edition on Friday and perfect timing, Juicy Couture also sent me this enormous bottle of champagne to celebrate their new fragrance launch (thank you guys!). I found out months ago about winning but wasn't allowed to tell anyone until the December edition came out, leaving people confused when they heard I was flying back from the Maldives. We had to cut our trip in half, fly back for the shoot (it was on a specific date which unfortunately was bang in the middle of my trip), it cost me thousands to get a last minute flight home and then, we flew back out again to continue our trip. But you know what? Tiredness, stress and a very unhappy purse, I hope you guys think it was worth it! I somehow needed to get back to 'claim my award' and do the photoshoot so I was in a bit of a tricky situation, typical me being miles away when I needed to be back in London (read my travel section to see where I have been this year so far!). I think everything in my life clashes but I guess I can't complain!
The images aren't like anything I've taken before but luckily, the dress is very me! I fell in love with the backless, silk and velvet mix. I'm a lover of wanderlust and all things boho so the shoes off thing? Totally okay with me. It was quite a whimsical, random shoot but I think when you see it in print, it works. I'd had a mere 4 hours sleep and been in about 4 different timezones on the day of the shoot but somehow, I did it! I was pleased to see they used YSL make up on me, my favourite - meaning my face looked a little less tired than it actually was! I just wish I could have shared my excitement with you guys on the day. I guess I just want to say a huge thank you:
Thank you if you've ever read my blog.
Thank you if you voted for me.
Thank you if you've ever left me a comment, sent me an email, commented on my Instagram, interacted with me in anyway.
Thank you even if you're more of a silent follower.
It means the world to me and I don't tell you enough - I truly, from the bottom of my heart can't thank you enough for following along and reading Emtalks.
I never expected anyone to read my blog, so to win such an amazing award with one of the best magazines just blows my mind. It makes me want to work harder, produce better things and make you guys proud. I honestly can't thank you enough if you read my blog. I don't even have the words to say how much it means to me.
I'd love to know what you guys want more of from me. Is it fashion? beauty? travel or personal posts that you love? Do you prefer fitness? Do you like a mixture?
So what can you expect from me? This little award has inspired me, I think I needed a little shake and trust me, I'm totally inspired. I'm working on the quality of my content, I'm working on doing more personal things because I think it's nice to help others and share any advice (even if it just helps one person, my job is done!). Lastly, I'm working on YouTube. I've said this before but I mean it now. I was so scared of YouTube but finally, I'm getting to grips with it, being myself and hoping that people join me on that ride too. If you like YouTube, you can subscribe to my channel here! - it goes without saying that it would mean the world to me!
Again, thank you so much - whether you just started following along or have been there from the start, it doesn't go unnoticed.
You can see the issue now in the December InStyle magazine and also read my interview and watch my video online here.
