Top Tips To Feeling Zen, Relaxed And De-Stressed In 2017

If you read my blog post about the highs and lows of 2016, you'll know that this year I plan on taking a little more 'me' time, that means focusing on my wellbeing and you should do that too! We talk about health and fitness but often we forget to discuss wellbeing, one of my main reasons for going to the gym. I love how clear it makes my head feel, it relaxes me and de-stresses me. When I lived in Canada, I did a mixture of hot yoga, barre and pilates 5 times a week, and I've never felt stronger or more content, relaxed and free. Yoga and pilates, just like the gym, make me feel instantly revitalised, strong and give me a clear head. One of my resolutions this year is to do more yoga and it inspired this post. I want to give you some of my top tips to zen this New Year.

1. Do yoga - First up, simply do yoga (or if it isn't for you, try something similar like pilates or barre). As I said, it makes me feel so zen. As someone who massively enjoys a really sweaty end to a work out, it took me a little while to get into yoga but once I understood it more and felt how strong it was making me, I fell in love. One of my biggest annoyances is that I don't always have the time to go to the gym and do yoga. They do classes at my gym but I can't always make them at that time. Luckily, I've been doing it online when I do have a spare few minutes. You can do yoga via YouTube or, with a new site I found called Yogaia. I've been looking for somewhere to do yoga online with more of an interactive instructor for a long time. They currently have 15 days of yoga and meditation classes designed to energise and inspire and they really help you practice mindfulness. I absolutely love them. So far I've taken part in a few (including barre) but they have a number of classes running. You can get a free 30 day trial online here.

2. Get more fresh air - There's something about fresh air that makes me feel totally zen. It completely clears my head, particularly when it's super fresh, non-London air. I love nothing more than using my legs, getting out and about and just breathing. Head to the countryside. I bet you'll instantly feel de-stressed.

3. Drink more water - It's simple, but drinking more water flushes toxins out and is bound to make you feel better. Just like eating yummy fruit and veggies does too.

4. Take time to bathe - Have a bath. Take some time to light a candle (my favourites are Diptyque, Jo Malone, Molton Brown and Neom) and run a bubble bath. I promise, you'll feel absolutely incredible afterwards. Over Christmas, I had a bath and it was absolutely insane. I'm not joking, I never have the time for baths so when I do dedicate some time for one, I feel amazing.

5. Don't take too much on - In 2016, I took far too much on, without leaving much 'me time', e.g., time for yoga and time for baths and just well, sitting down and doing nothing. You should never be so busy making a living that you forget to make a life. It's important to lower stress levels and enjoy yourself. This year, I'm working on actually having my weekends free, so I can relax and have at least one day off a week.

6. Put your phone down - Lastly, put your phone down. Pick up a book in bed rather than scrolling. I love social media, but often, it's better to just be in the moment and enjoy. I'd really like to read some books this year.

They all sound simple, but trust me, they work. I know I'm going to be trying really hard to incorporate more of those simple things above into my life.

Watch my video below with some of my new years resolutions.  I would also love it if you could subscribe to me on YouTube here!

I hope this quick little post helped you, let me know if you'll be doing any of the above! Thanks to Yogia for sponsoring this post. As always, it's 100% my honest opinion.

Lots of love, Em x
