I'm a sucker for a trip to Manchester, usually because it means I get to see my hairdresser, Lee at Sassoon. Lee moved over from the Leeds to the Manchester Sassoon a while back so ever since, I've been commuting from Leeds or London over to Manchester every 8ish weeks when I need a trim. He basically saved my hair and continues to do so and it's well worth the trip to Manchester. I try and tie this into going for a nice dinner, meeting friends or staying over so it feels like more of an occasion so this time, I decided to head back to Australasia, one of my favourite restaurants in the whole of Manchester and even though this is long overdue, I thought it was worth a new blog post because we had THE BEST time.
We checked into the Mercure hotel Manchester this time around, it's super close to everything, has car parking (we spend SO much money on car parking) and the room was bright, big and perfect for working from. We were even greeted with the cutest desert plate, such a nice little touch. Outside of the window we also had views of the whole of Manchester, I unfortunately couldn't capture it as it was steamy but if you watched my vlog you may remember seeing it (sorry that it's taken me so long to get this post live). I also love coming to Manchester because I don't have to ruin my gym routine, I go to David Lloyd and with your membership you can use their clubs all around Europe. I may have popped into DL Manchester far too many times! It's so handy.
We quickly got on with some work in our hotel room and then it was time to head to Australasia. Matt had never visited Australasia before and it has long been one of my favourite restaurants. I've told him we need to make a reservation so many times and we finally got around to doing so. Australasia is bang in the middle of Spinningfields and is entered via a special glass staircase. They whip up Australian cusine with Pacific Rim flavours. Imagine Australian meets Japan meets Southeast Asian. It's good, basically all my favourite flavours in one place.
It would be wrong to head to Australasia and not start with cocktails. The cocktail list is extensive and I could have happily drank them all night long. They do a variety of different cocktails, whether you're wanting something sweet or something more sake themed.
Australasia does the best sushi, ever. From their platters, to their special rolls. I always reccommend Australasia as the best place to head to for really good sushi. I tend to go to Australasia and get sharing plates, there's so much goodness I just want to try it all so I do it like tapas. You can have main courses but everytime I've been we've done it as a sharing tapas.
So all in all? I still love Australasia, the service, the high quality food and the beautiful venue. Australasia will always be one of my favourites and I already can't wait to go back. Manchester? I'll of course be back to see Lee, my hair dresser!
Do you guys ever visit Manchester? Have you heard of Australasia?
