Hey guys hope you are so well. I recently wrote up my updated gym routine blog post but what about caring for your body after sweating in the gym? Today I thought it was time to talk about a few products I’m loving post-gym/exercise. I absolutely love a post-gym pamper but have never really talked about the things I use, or, haven't discussed this for quite some time over on the little old blog. Since January, I’ve been averaging 3-4 workouts per week and don’t ask me how because life has been hectic but you know what? I'm proud of myself and I feel great for it. Read my post about staying motivated at the gym for more on that. The hardest part about working out? Getting there in the first place. I’ve found I’m having to cram my workouts in, doing many days in a row which I don’t really like doing because rest is SO important and it means I haven’t been having many rest days. Here are some of the things that make it into my post workout grooming routine and make workouts/muscle soreness that little bit easier... This post is in collaboration with Femfresh, a brand I have been buying for years!
Elemis Instant Refreshing Gel - This muscle reviving body gel from Elemis has been in my life for a long time, I just had to talk about it. I have gone through so many of these little tubes. I find it perfect post-spin or when my muscles feel as if they need a serious treat. It cools and refreshes and is more of an instant revitaliser for muscle tension, it’s also really good for the shoulders and is perfect for someone who's always bending over on a spin bike like yours truly. Hello instantly happy muscles.
Femfresh Active Body Wash - I had to talk about this product. A few months ago I took part in an exciting shoot with Femfresh (see some of it below) and learnt all about the brand. It's funny because I've been using Femfresh for years, ever since my Mum told me how bad it is to use a random perfumed soap 'down there'. Basically, we have a pH of 4.5 in ‘down there’ compared to around 5.5 for the rest of our body and sometimes this natural balance can be disrupted by using normal soaps. I don't really know why it's a taboo subject, we are all human but anyway, after my spin classes I get ridiculously sweaty (everywhere) and it's so important for me to ensure I'm properly cleansing after workouts. The Active Fresh wash has revolutionised my life as it's designed for active people. It's a gentle delicately fragranced freshening wash enriched with lactic acid and purifying calendula. It works in harmony with your body to provide an immediate feeling of freshness to the intimate skin. The Multi-Active odour neutralising complex with silver ions helps to leave you feeling fresh and comfortable throughout the day and it really does mean I can hop off my spin bike, jump in the shower and then feel ready for my day ahead. This can also be used as a normal shower gel as it's gentle for the whole body. Dermatologically and gynaecologically tested and suitable for everyday use. I ensure this is always in my gym bag now. Watch my video with Femfresh below.
Ren Magnesium Booster Body Spray - This is a newbie in my life but I know this will be in my gym bag from now on, particularly as it's such a handy little bottle to throw in. Ren Magnesium Booster is a high concentration body spray with high purity Magnesium salts, carefully extracted from a 250 million years old unpolluted Zechstein sea?! Yup, really. It’s a refreshing and relaxing spray to help relax muscle tension. Ideal to be used after exercise so if you’re more of a spray and go person over a gel, this is for you. You spray and then massage it into your muscles and goodbye tension.
Molton Brown Re-charge Black Pepper Sport Muscle Soak - If you've ever seen any of my insta stories (@emshelx on Instagram) in the bath you'll know I always use Molton Brown bath soak. I live for my Sunday night bath time after a long week of workouts and that's why I always turn to these mineral-rich thermal salts in a hot bath. I always throw them in my bath post workout to soothe my muscles and even after a week of intense workouts, I feel way better knowing I've used these. I light my favourite Jo Malone candle and relax.
Vita Coco - Coconut water - I had to include my post-workout drink of choice in here. Vita Coco Coconut water has long been a favourite of mine, whether it's in smoothies, protein shakes or my porridge. I have started to drink Vita Coco post gym as it's rich in vitamins, minerals and electrolytes, making it perfect for post-workout. Try my healthy pancake recipe and add in some coconut water for extra creaminess!
Elemis Aching Muscle Soak - If like me, you're a bath lover, you'll love this. A musclease bath soak which warms, recharges and energises aching muscles. It smells refreshing and gives me the kick start I need for happy muscles and a busy week ahead. Again, this is a product I've been using for ages. I can't recommend it enough.
Fit Kit - Post Exercise Shower Gel - (available at Holland and Barratt) - I love Holland and Barratt and always find myself leaving with VERY heavy bags. This is a great on the go/travel friendly post-exercise shower gel as it's a little sachet that can be thrown in your gym bag. It has peppermint oil for tired muscles and is muscle cooling so pretty much does everything you need.
I know I should have more post-gym sports massages but they're expensive and take time so if you need me, you'll find me in a hot steamy bath with all the salts and a Jo Malone candle burning away.
