Advertorial Post with Aviva, Gifted PR items featured and Ad affiliate links used - Love it or hate it, Valentine's day is around the corner. For me, I’ve always loved the idea of Valentine's day, whether I’m single, taken or seeing someone. I think Valentine's day is first and foremost about showing yourself some love, so buy yourself some roses, eat some melted chocolate or run a nice candle lit bath, or, you can go and spend Valentine's day with your besties. It goes without saying that you should show your loved ones love all year round, but I do love the excuse to go all out on Valentine's day too.
Today I wanted to put together some ideas of things you can do this Valentine's day/period with someone you love.
Adventure - You don’t have to spend money, you could always go for a nice long hike, walk or find a local park or river to wander around. I absolutely love going on walks and love nothing more than getting wrapped up and going out and exploring. You could take this adventure a little further and do something like tree top climbing, canoeing, rock climbing, mini golf or something too, whatever floats your boat or you could stick to the free option of exploring the outdoors.
Stay over - If you are wanting to spend money this Valentine's day, you can always do a nice stay over. My top tip is to actually book something round the Valentine's period, rather than on actual Valentines day, then you’ll save money. There are two places at the top of my list in the UK: Cliveden House, the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. I stayed here on a hosted press trip and then extended because it was so wonderful. I already cannot wait to go back, epic service, epic food and the whole place is incredibly regal and luxurious, plus, there’s a luxury spa. If you fancy the Cotswolds, I highly recommend The Painswick, my family and I had the most incredible birthday/pre-Christmas chill time there, the rooms are so quirky and the hotel is divine. It's definitely one of my favourite hotels, ever. If you’re thinking of Yorkshire, my favourite is Rudding Park. As a family we have been paying to stay here for years, make sure you get a spa room and use the infinity rooftop pool all day until twilight. My dream is to stay in a little discrete lodge somewhere so you could always look on places like Air BnB for hidden gems and find somewhere nestled in the country side or even a tree house?! Very romantic. Give me a log fire and I’ll feel as if I’m in The Holiday.
Food - Food glorious food. To me, you cannot go wrong with a foodie gift. Whether it’s a luxurious food hamper from Selfridges, a picnic in the park (I’ve asked so many exes to take me for picnics and none of them ever did haha), a special dinner at your favourite restaurant (so many great restaurants have deals on for Valentines day) or a take away night in. I know that this year, I’ve cancelled my dinner reservation and I’m going to go to Wholefoods and buy lots of snacky food and have a nice night in. You can do afternoon tea, a special breakfast with home-made heart shaped pancakes, make pizza from scratch together at home, there are so many options.
Non-conventional Valentine’s Day gifts - You could always surprise your partner with something unique and different this year… taking adulting to the next level. What about showing your commitment by naming your partner the beneficiary of your pension (if you haven’t already done so)? I honestly set up my first pension the other day and it was WILD. It may not sound particularly fun and exciting, and the value of my pension could go down as well as up and I may get back less than has been paid in, but it’s an adult thing to do! Just like giving them the keys to your house, getting a fish together or going to a gym class together! For me, Valentines is about spending time together.
Get crafty - You could get crafty together, whether it’s a pottery making class, baking cookies or even going to an art class together. I always think a really nice gift idea is to write down loads of your memories and tie them to balloons OR put them in a little jar.
See a show - Make some memories and see a show, whether it’s at the theatre, the cinema, a burlesque show or a comedy show, obviously have pizza after, during or before, ha!
