Mothers Day Gift Ideas - Mothers Day Gift Guide

Ad affiliate throughout -

Mother’s Day and Mothering Sunday both have slightly different origins but essentially in our modern world they simply represent a day in which we can truly show our Mum or mother figure how much they're valued and appreciated. In the UK, Mother's Day is March 27th 2022. After what we have all been through in the past 2 years, with many of us not being able to see our loved ones on Mother’s Day and with what is happening in the world right now I really don’t think there has been a more appropriate time to stop and thank them for all they do and show them how loved they are. I would also at this point like to stop a moment and think about those people who have either lost their mum or who had a difficult relationship with their mum.

When we were little my mum used to say to my brother and I that she didn’t need anything buying for Mother’s because all she needed was my brother and I and that meant she had everything she ever needed. That always reminds me of how selfless she and so many other mums are.  That very statement in itself means that for a single day each year she deserves spoiling.  Good parents often do so much tirelessly all year round and without expecting anything back and it is lovely certainly for me to have a day in which I can spoil her.

One thing I must stress about treating anyone to anything that is material – budget is a very private thing and treating someone does not have to break the bank, the best gift could just be the gift of your time.  Equally if you want to go for the grand gestures then that’s your preogative – the main thing is to do something that really warms you mum’s heart and brings obvious joy to her face – that could even mean just being present and spending time with her.  I’ve put a few ideas of gifts together below based on things I know my mum likes. In this Mothers Day gift guide I’ve included something for all budgets and from a range of brands and retailers small, medium and large. I hope my Mother's Day gift guide gives you some inspiration!

Mothers Day gift guide ideas: If you're looking for discounted gifts, I would recommend checking out my blog post with a list of the best promo codes and discount codes first!

Fashion / designer gifts: If you wanted to spoil your Mum with something designer from FARFETCH you can use Farfetch discount code EM10FF code gives new customers 10% off full price and sale items, includes brands like Chloe, Jacquemus, Coach, Mulberry, Stuart Weitzman, Maje and more - brand exclusions apply - please see brand restrictions and Ts&Cs here. Try using code EMS15 for 15% off too at FARFETCH - I personally love so many of their bags under £500 and they have amazing wallets / sunglasses too.

Kiwi Bottles: I love this brand and got some very special friends a personalised hand painted bottle having received my very own earlier this year.  The girl who owns this small business decorates a bottle of your choice with a design of your choice and they are so lovely and personal.  It's a literal work of art, on a bottle of dreams. You could also make this part of a wider gift by cooking your mum an extra special meal and sharing a glass with her. It's such a forever, special gift as you can keep the bottle afterwards.

Experiences:  My mum absolutely loves going to the theatre with a passion and this type of present means that you can spend valuable time together too. It's a nice ioweyou {Etsy do cute vouchers for this kinda stuff} voucher but also it's something you can get dressed up for and really enjoy, making memories that last a lifetime - plus, the theatre industry needs the support after the last few years. I often buy my Mum a voucher to stay somewhere lovely, whether it's in The Cotswolds, Yorkshire or London - a nice spa trip, afternoon tea or just some 'her time'. You could do something like buy her the gift of time too: book her a cleaner, a gardener or a service? We use Fantastic Services for cleaning and honestly it would be the dreamiest gift if someone bought me a house keeper for a few weeks and I know my Mum would love that too.

Hair and Nail vouchers: Who doesn’t love being pampered by professionals?  Mums are no exception and I know my mum relishes her time at the hair salon with a follow up nail treatment.  Equally she also loves a luxury hair treatment to use at home but it’s something she wouldn’t necessarily spend her money on so I often treat her to Kerastase or Aveda products. My Mum loves Sassoon Leeds {we go to Tatty and Louise} and I often buy her blow dry vouchers from there or call ahead, pay and book so she can enjoy. She also adores Ragdoll nails so I often buy her vouchers to go and see the lovely Laura there.

Food glorious food:  Not all people like chocolate but love other sweet treats... this is the perfect choice. There are so many small businesses who are now shipping the most delicious gooey and luxurious brownies and cookies in pretty boxes across the country.  I absolutely love these brands: That Cake + That Pantry - a wonderful bakery in Saltburn By The Sea {I'm making it my mission this Summer to go visit}, they sell artisan goods like pasta and the most amazing crackers {we made some hampers for family friends over Christmas and they loved them} or they sell amazing cookies and brownies to ship too! I've lost count of how many orders I've placed for friends since finding them. Not forgetting Yorkshire's finest, The Savvy Baker. This gorgeous female founded bakery sells personalised brownie slabs which are sure to put a smile on anyones face. Another favourite postal brownie business? The Good News Baker, I am obsessed with the owner Warsan and her yummy delights. You can also send Creme cookies, Matt and I are OBSESSED with their chocolate cookies and  the recipient just needs to pop them in the oven. Thank me later!!! Gooey, delicious, delights. I love anything personalised and I have been buying personalised goodies from small businesses to send this love. I discovered gorgeous small business Biscuit Bunny Bakes and I love the idea of sending people a little letterbox, personalised biscuit pick me up... basically a biscuit card! If you're lucky enough to see your Mum this Mother's Day, you could always present her with the cookies as a gift! Etsy sell so many amazing cards and personalised bakes.

Cadbury here

Flowers and chocolates are always a great shout - (my mum likes Hotel Chocolat, Lindt and Cadbury - you can get a personalised Cadbury here) are an absolute staple as I am sure they are for your mum! Or go with a personalised Toblerone - divine. I adore luxury chocolate brand Laderach, their salted caramel chocolate is amazing. I've got it from Harrods before and also Regent Street.  I also LOVE the Selfridges food hampers, they do a range of different prices and they're utterly gorgeous.

Time is often at a premium for busy working mums with families.  That doesn’t mean though that they want to miss out on eating nutritionally sound meals.  I’ve found some truly great deliver to the door healthier eating ideas in this past year:

Good Grain:  They are a small female owned business that delivers ready to eat, overnight oats and chia puddings.  They are all gluten, dairy and refined sugar free and made from 100% natural ingredients.  It’s a simple proposition – they soak jumbo oats and chia seeds overnight in plant based milk, mix them with some delicious items such as medjool dates, raw cacao and nut butters and then deliver them to your door.  No shopping, no prep and no cleaning – what could be simpler than that.  I can vouch for the delicious flavour. It's my dream to have my fridge stocked with these every single day.

Berry and Brie (London): For amazing grazing platters and yummy brunch boxes, the incredible owner Mako does amazing seasonal gifts and the Mother's Day boxes are exceptional. I love the cheese boxes the best and they are ideal as a surprise at anytime – again, ordering one of these will mean you can spend some valuable time with your mum over some lovely food without all the prep that goes in to it. How about a gorgeous picnic?

Rhythm108For refined sugar free chocolatey treats, Rhythm108 are great: the best for healthier, vegan, gluten and refined sugar free chocolate bars and cookies! I like the coconut / salted almond bars, mylk tablets and hazelnut cookies! They make divine gifts as they're made using luxury Swiss chocolate and their packaging is divine. Use Rhythm108 promo code EMS20 for 20% off the whole Rhythm108 site
Farfetch luxury candles

Candles:  I love luxury candles so much, high quality candles have amazing burning times too. My all time favourite candles include Jo Malone - right now they're doing amazing heart shaped boxes and divine limited edition scents for Spring, The White Company - for more affordable but divine candles and they currently have an amazing sale on, Molton Brown - they do divine gift sets, Diptyque for ultimate luxury {it's my dream to have a huge one} but the choice is absolutely endless and the scent and look of a candle is very personal to the individual, their home and their scent desires. Farfetch do some divine candles and homeware from lovely, luxurious brands. Remember to use discount code EMS15 on Farfetch for 15% off.

In terms of fragrance, because I don't really think it's something you treat yourself to so I think it makes a lovely gift, The new Jo Malone Blossoms collection is divine, particularly the Jo Malone Sea Daffodil fragrance if you're looking for something fresh and sea like, it's also a lovely limited edition, new scent so a nice one to try. If not, I would always play it safe with Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir {Pomegranate Noir here too - it's a best seller} or Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolf (and gift set here)  the most magical floral scent. For something a little more 'evening wear', I love Tuberose Angelica. A scent I never want to run out of is Armani Si (and gift set here), actually one of my Mum's all time favourite scents. My auntie absolutely adores the Verbena range from L'Occitane - it's such a nice uplifting range. If you can get fragrance in a set too I always think it makes the gift even more long-lasting / special. You can find good fragrance gift sets if you're looking to get more bang for your buck.

Facial and Body Products:  Mum and I are skincare / beauty obsessed and we never tire of discovering new creams, gels, make ups etc, it’s like a therapy for us and I absolutely love the idea of treating someone to a pamper.  I usually make my Mum a hamper of all her favourites. You can read about our top facial cleansers if you missed that and need some inspo or the best body moisturisers because I feel like a luxury body product makes such an indulgent, luxurious and gorgeous pampering gift. Here are some of my mum’s favourites but I have to say the list is endless:

My Mum adores anything from the L'Occitane Almond range - such a dreamy {And sustainable} yet luxurious, natural range of products. For more affordable body products, I also always stock her up on The Body Shop and their coconut or shea range, you really cannot go wrong with their gift sets and my Mum started using them before she gave birth to me. If your Mama needs a pamper, I LOVE the Temple Spa bath soak. When it comes to skincare, a family favourite is the best selling L'Occitane Overnight Reset serum - a wonder serum - Mum and I are both obsessed with cleansing balms as they're great for efficient but lazy removal, Elemis Cleansing Balm and Take The Day Off by Clinique -  SkinCeuticals H.A Powerful Corrective Intensifier and SkinCeuticals Retinol are the most epic, holy grail skincare products for anyone into anti-aging and scientific products, they truly are the Creme de La Creme of skincare - for the prettiest cream to exist, I adore the entire Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream range - of course, an absolute winner for Mother's Day is the Elizabeth Arden Vitamin C Capsules and Retinol Capsules, alongside the Arden Eight Hour Cream (multi-tasking genius product which is epic for lips, sun burn and everything in between!) Another holy grail: the Midnight Recovery Oil and Creme De Corps from Kiehl's because they make the best gifts and are genuinely two of the best products I've used - I stock my Mum up on Creme De Corps every few months! Olaplex because they're the most amazing hair masks.

Fitness and Health:  Throughout her life my mum’s main form of exercise has been walking.  She walks miles and Thurlos hiking socks are always on her list of staples, I know socks are a boring gift but they're a useful one.  She always jokes that if you don’t know what to buy me as a present please get me some hiking socks!  More lately she has joined a gym and is an avid class attendee and now also loves leggings, sports bras and tops from Sweaty Betty and Gymshark  – these make excellent gifts.

Mama mug

A hug in a mug:  Mum loves nothing better than a new special mug to drink her tea out of.  It’s just something she has always loved.  She gets attached to her mugs for months and sometimes years.  I bought her one 2 Mother’s Days ago from Oliver Bonas with Mama on the front of it and she loves it.  I can honestly say that I think Oliver Bonas is one of my all time favourite shops to visit for amazing bits and pieces that make different and quirky presents. You could take the mug a step further and grab a Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser to go with it or some Knoops chocolate flakes which are divine. You could always do something cute too like stock her up on her favourite tea / coffee, my Mum adores teapigs every day brew so stocking her up on that alongside a new mug is a good gift idea.

I love homeware and I know my Mum does too, so you could get her some gorgeous homeware like a new serving tray or tea cup set / wine glasses, good ones online here {EMS15 for discount} or this set and put together your very own handmade afternoon tea!

You could get your Mama something cosy too like Dupe Ugg slippers or sale Ugg slippers and then a luxury The White Company dressing gown to go with it.

Books/Kindle:  Over the last few years my mum has rekindled her love of reading and for Christmas I treated her to an Amazon voucher so that she can buy whenever she picks up a new recommend from somewhere, I usually get her healthy cooking books which she loves. It could even be something special yet useful like a personalised notebook or diary.

Photos, photo frames and photo books / personalised goodies: One of the presents that have made both my mum and my family happier than anything have been photos and photo books.  Sharing memories in this way is such a great gift idea and the books I have purchased previously have been used in so many family gatherings to rekindle lovely memories of times we have spent together. I often just get photos of us over the years and make a gorgeous photo book online, properly bound like an actual book. We also love just buying gorgeous frames and printing special moments inside them. We have a golden doodle puppy so I bought my Mum the cutest golden doodle bag with a photo of our angel on it! I find Etsy is the best for personalised gifts, I typed in' Goldendoodle' and got my Mum so many gorgeous personalised cards, mugs etc!

MONICA VINADER 20% OFF - engraved jewellery

Jewellery: Special jewellery is a forever gift and I highly recommend Monica Vinader, they do the most stunning bracelets and you can engrave them too making them super special! I got the most gorgeous pendant engraved with a heart on one side and a name on the other. If you click via my Monica Vinader discount code link, you can get MONICA VINADER 20% OFF auto applied at checkout!

Below I am sharing some ideas of presents I have previously treated my mum to but they are not necessarily something I would personally purchase for Mother’s Day – more of a big special present for a special birthday or Christmas but depending on your budget you may wish to look at these as they really do make special gifts.

Fitbit {and here}: For mums who love tracking and log their steps, workouts, heartrate, food and more this is a great little gadget and I know it’s helped my mum in her fitness journey.

Burberry scarf {and here} or a Gucci belt: 2 really beautiful wardrobe staples that are ideal to give outfits a real glow up, gorgeous intro-to-designer / luxury wardrobe staples. You can get lots of designer belts from Farfetch and remember my discount code EMS15 gets you 15% off {including sale!}

Dyson Hairdryer: Fast drying with no extreme heat and 5 different attachments this is one of the best hairdryers I’ve come across and would make an epic Mother’s Day gift.

I hope those ideas have been helpful. Whatever you choose to do and whatever gift you choose to give I hope you and your mum have the day you deserve!

Lots of love, Em x
