Hello my lovelies, as a long time lover of so many Elizabeth Arden products, I was so honoured to be invited to a launch of the new Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HPR Ceramide Range recently and here I am today to tell you all about this revolutionary range from the queens of skincare.

Before I delve in to that, a bit about the company:  Elizabeth Arden was first established in 1910 and quickly became a pioneer in the beauty industry through an introduction of innovative products - owned by a strong female.

Known for its skin care, cosmetics and fragrance lines I've worked with Arden now for a number of years and amongst my favourite products are their Original Eight Hour Cream and their Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant Nighttime Miracle Moisturiser and my Mum is an absolute super fan of the Elizabeth Arden Light Ceramide Capsules.  In addition to loving these, my Mum would never go anywhere without the wonderful Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Lip Balm, she has one in each handbag!

We have adored Elizabeth Arden for well over ten years now and the brand just gets better and better.

PS. I am also here to tell you that Elizabeth Arden promo code EM20 gets you 20% off everything on the Elizabeth Arden site, including the new Elizabeth Arden Stanley cup collaboration so if you were. looking for a Stanley cup discount code shop here. Now back onto the review of the Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HPR Ceramide review.

As a brand that has maintained a reputation for quality, luxury and innovation for so long, I think the new Retinol + HPR Ceramide Range is deserving of a review and you can rely on me for that, so sit back, read and enjoy:

What is the Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HRP Ceramide range?

This is a collection of skincare products which combines retinol (which is a form of vitamin A) and Hydroxpinacolone Retinoate (HPR) along with ceramides.  The combination of these ingredients is thought to deliver all the benefits of retinol without the typical retinol reaction that can sometimes occur. I know it's a mouthful so I wanted to really break it down for you.

Note: In articles about facial creams and serums, science backed compounds are often referenced without any real explanation about the benefits the provide for skin.  I used to be so confused about which compounds would target which skin problems and I have learnt so much over the years by attending skincare events and I absolutely love the subject.  For that reason, at the end of this blog post I've done a little overview on what I have learnt about these compounds.  If you have a moment, do have a read so you can see why these compounds are so vital for our skin health.

What does the Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HPR Ceramide range do?

Together the ingredients work to target signs of ageing, improve skin texture, and promote a smoother, more youthful complexion. The ceramides help to restore and maintain the skin's natural barrier function, keeping it protected and hydrated.

What products are available in the Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HPR Ceramide Range?

The current specific offerings in the Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HPR Ceramide range include:

Retinol Ceramide +HPR capsules - these are a single-use capsule containing a serum with retinol and ceramides. I have been using Elizabeth Arden's single-use capsules without HPR for several years now.  I absolutely love them because they deliver just the right amount of serum each time and take the guess work out of it.  I have been using the new ones with HPR now for over a month and they make my skin feel super smooth.

Retinol + HPR Ceramide Rapid Skin Renewing Water Cream - I love this cream because, although my wrinkles have not yet started thankfully, my skin is thirsty.  This cream leaves it looking glowy and hydrated.

If you are wondering how to combine the two products, I personally use the Elizabeth Arden retinol capsules 3-4x per week, first after toning and then I apply the Elizabeth Arden renewing water cream straight after. I use retinol 3-4x per week but with Elizabeth Arden you're safe to use it daily and also twice a day apparently.

How do you use the Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide + HPR capsules?

First thoroughly cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser of your choice then pat your skin dry.  Use a toner if this is part of your routine. Twist or snip open one capsule of the Retinol + HPR ceramide formula.  Each capsule contains a perfectly measured single dose.  Next smooth the contents of the capsule evenly over your face and neck, avoiding the delicate eye area.  I always like to wait 5 minutes so that I know the product is fully absorbed.  Follow with moisturiser.  As retinol can increase sun sensitivity, if you don't already, use a sunscreen during the day.

PS. If you're wondering about Elizabeth Arden capsules and their sustainability, they disintegrate so you are all good, every Elizabeth Arden capsule is 100% biodegradable.

How often should I use Retinol Ceramide + HPR capsules?

I started using the capsules twice a week and have gradually increased to 4 times a week now that I know my skin tolerates it. Due to the increase in sun sensitivity I tend to use these at night time. Consistency is important to see results but do be cautious when using any products that you don't overdo it as retinol can sometimes cause irritation if used too frequently and if not introduced gradually to skin.

What are the Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HPR capsules like?

The capsules are something I've always loved in the Elizabeth Arden range as they take away the dilemma of how much to use.  So they are individually sealed capsules and this not only helps with dosage but also means that every single does remains fresh and potent until used.  The packaging also makes them super convenient to travel with. It's no secret that I like to adhere to a strict skin care routine while travelling and these make it easy to stick to. Additionally, as every dose is sealed until used this limits the chance of degradation and therefore skin irritation. The serum is an easy to apply liquid which glides on. Having now used these capsules for a few weeks, my skin feels super plump and smooth as a result.

How do you use the Retinol + HPR Ceramide Rapid Skin Renewing Water Cream?

After thoroughly cleansing and (if it's part of your routine, toning) add a light serum.  I have been using these serum capsules for years and they are great: Elizabeth Arden Light Ceramide Capsules. After allowing the serum to sink in and absorb for 5 minutes, take a small amount of the Retinol + HPR Ceramide water cream and gently pat and massage it into the face and neck avoiding the eye area.  I sweep it upwards and outwards as I've always been led to believe this is a good way to apply facial products. Allow to absorb before applying sunscreen.

How often can I use the Retinol + HPR Ceramide Rapid Skin Renewing Water Cream?

As with all retinol based products it is wise to start using once or twice a week gradually increasing to once or twice a day over several weeks if your skin tolerates it.  I started using this during my morning routine once a week and my skin now tolerates at least 4 uses per week.

What is the Retinol + HRP Ceramide Skin Renewing Water Cream like?

The consistency of the water cream is lightweight and gel-like.  It's not thick or heavy like traditional creams - more refreshing.  I've found that it is super hydrating and absorbs quickly in to my skin with no hint of stickiness (I truly loathe sticky creams).  When I first apply it, my skin feels cool.  As it isn't a thick cream, it's suitable for all skin types including oily because it doesn't clog.

Who is the Retinol + HRP Ceramide skincare range suitable for?

This range is suitable for first time retinol usage due to the gentle combination of ingredients.  It's suitable for all skin types and is gentle enough to be used day or night. It particularly suits those looking to address concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture.  For sure I can report that my skin feels smooth and plump on regular use and it improves my skin's firmness and overall look.

What other active ingredients does the Elizabeth Arden Retinol + Ceramide skincare range contain?

When I say this range is packed with powerful ingredients, I really mean it!  In addition to retinol, HPR and ceramide here are some of the other important compounds included:

Hyaluronic acid to help plum and replenish lost moisture

Power peptides to smooth and support skin's collagen

Phytoceramides to support the skin's barrier

Bisabolol and ginger root which can help soothe skin and minimise irritation

How much are products in the Retinol + HPR range?

The Retinol + HPR capsules come in 3 sizes (30, 60 and 90 pieces) with the prices ranging from £51 - £99.

Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HPR Ceramide Capsules

The Retinol + HPR water cream currently comes in a 50ml container and retails at £75.

As always, offers are running all the time on these products and I've found these offers currently:

Elizabeth Arden Retinol + HPR Ceramide Rapid Renewing Water Cream

Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules 90

Are the products in this range worth the price?

For me the answer is most definitely YES because the number of effective ingredients packed in to this range makes it powerful and potent and my skin thanks me for it.  Additionally, the convenience of the capsules makes it super easy to stick to my skin care routine wherever I am and the fact that the capsules deliver a single dosage each time mean that I don't use too much of it and it lasts.

Good skincare products that use an abundance of high quality products can seem very expensive but once tried I think you can really tell the difference and that is truly how you can measure whether or not the price is worth it - if after consistent use you get the improvements that you want then I would consider it a good investment in skincare.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Original

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream - my love of Elizabeth Arden began with this brilliant multi-talker

The following is an overview of the key compounds in the HPR+ Ceramide range and what those compounds do:

What is Retinol?

Retinol is a form of vitamin A that is commonly used in skincare products.  It is a type of retinoid which is a class of compounds related to vitamin A.  It is known for its ability to promote skin renewal and enhance collagen production which can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It also aids in improving skin texture, tone and overall complexion.  On top of all that, retinol can help unclog pores and reduce breakouts.  Retinol however can cause skin irritation and it is super important to use them as directed and to patch test first.

What is HPR?

Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR) is a retinoid derivative often used in skincare products.  It is a gentle form of retinoid that is believed to offer similar benefits to traditional retinoids, such as stimulating collagen production, promoting cell turnover and improving skin texture without causing as much irritation.

What is Ceramide?

Ceramides are lipids (fats) that are naturally found in the skin's outermost layer, and play a critical role in maintaining the skin's barrier function to help retain moisture and protect against environmental damage. Ceramides are particularly helpful for dry, sensitive or ageing skin and also for skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis because they help with moisture balance and soothe dry and irritated skin.

So, there you have it.  Elizabeth Arden's retinol + HPR and ceramide range offers a huge blend of science backed skincare innovation which means luxurious skin glowing self-care for us!
