Whether you're a fitness enthusiast, a fashionista or simply someone who just appreciates a comfortable pair of trainers, this year's lineup has something for everyone and I'm here to talk to you about some of the best trainers to buy in 2024. Please note, this list is not exhaustive - if it was, this blog post would never end!
First up then I think I have to pay homage to my lifetime favourites, the Adidas Stan Smith's. Named after a legendary tennis player these trainers have been around for generations and are great for fashion and sport alike. With their clean lines and iconic green heel tab they're super understated and elegant and renowned for their comfort and versatility. Back in the day these screamed cool girl and I still adore them to this day.
With its iconic air cushioning technology and sleek design, the Nike Air Max DN continues to be a fave worldwide. The 2024 Max DN edition features updated materials and colourways and I can see it being a must have. I feel that these give boss bitch.
Renowned for its unparalleled comfort and performance, the Adidas UltraBoost is getting an upgrade in 2024 and the model will have a prime knit upper and responsive boost midsole to provide maximum energy return with every step. I currently own the Adidas UltraBoost light and these are truly my favourite ever trainers for long runs and they are super light weight. I trust them so much when it comes to long runs. They never let me down.
I adore New Balance as they give me all I need from a functionality point of view while being super stylish. The 2024 version gives enhanced cushioning and support which is great for me as I can be prone to shin splints and I also walk a lot so cushioning is so important to me - these are great for long runs or casual wear. They boys in my life are all New Balance fans.
I'm loving that the Puma classic has been given a modern twist recently - I love the updated colours and lightweight materials. This one ticks both the style and performance box, it will transition easily from the gym to the streets and the cushioning is really good.
Now these are my new go to trainers for this year for all round sport. Designed for toughest of workouts the Reebok Floatzig trainers do what it says on the tin: they let you float. I am really enjoying wearing these trainers. They are trialled and tested by me and have done many miles of running and many burpees with no shin splints - hooray. The Reebok Nano X4 is also a must have if you are a fitness enthusiast. They have a really durable construction and can handle any amount of training yet is still light weight.
I love the entire ON range, they are pricey but with great science. These ON Cloud X 3 AD trainers are cutting edge when it comes to design. Matt has got the male equivalent and he reports that not only do they look good but they are super supportive and comfy - boasting engineering that adapts to the foot's natural movement makes them super responsive. In addition to looking great they're super cushioned using ON's signature CloudTec cushion technology so they really do push the boundaries of both performance and comfort. I intend to try some this year. My boyfriend is an ON trainer superfan.
I can't believe just how light weight this trainer is - zero gravity and feels super light on the feet. It looks super sleek too and is capable of gym work and pounding the pavements so a good all rounder.
My family are ASICS enthusiasts and have been so for many years. After a bout of shin splints last year they converted me too. I've never thought they're the best looking trainers but now I've used them I forgive them for that. I tried them and could not believe the cushioning and comfort that ASICS provide. My step-dad runs marathons and has never suffered any blisters or any injuries and has worn ASICS since first starting his running career many years - he swears by them. My Mum on the other hand is a huge walker and several years ago suffered plantar fasciitis. She switched over to ASICS several years ago and has never looked back. They provide all the support she needs. The Gel-Kayano 28 features advanced cushioning and a secure fit and provide a smooth and stable ride for many miles. My only issue with Asics is they can be a bit too bold in colour for me but they help me run so I guess I will have to deal with the lack of aesthetics and think about the Science instead.
I adore Veja trainers. If you're looking for a beautiful pair of trainers to do daily errands and dry walk then these are the ones. They're a really lovely summer trainer which work well when worn with jeans or dresses and skirts. There are so many different types of Vejas and my all time faves (I've had several pairs) are the Veja Esplar. They mould to your feet so well and are so comfy and they look dainty and delicate rather than chunky so if you're wanting that narrow look without the chunkiness these achieve that. Veja are a super cool girl trainer and incredibly sustainable and super pretty. If you're looking for an IT girl trainer that looks great for brunch to hot girl walks, the Veja Esplar is a great choice.
Saving the best til last with the Puma Cali trainers. My favourite athleisure, every day trainer. If you're looking for something a little chunkier than the Veja trainers. I always say if I'm not wearing my Adidas Stan Smiths for sightseeing you'll probably find me in my Puma Cali trainers. I actually read Selena Gomez wears these trainers, so if you want to look like Selena Gomez, clearly the Puma Cali trainers are for you. I'd say they look more flattering than my Stan Smiths because they're a little less wide looking and I quite like the narrow look but I am a wide footed girl and they are still so flattering on me. They look a little smarter than your average trainer and definitely look smarter than the Stan Smiths. I love the chunky sole and find them really flattering. I would say they are actually very hard to touch and feel but I never get blisters with them so they feel very comfy on the feet. I wore these every single day on my last New York trip and regularly do 20,000 steps around London in them and they are absolutely gorgeous. You can get Puma Cali online here and here and here too.
In conclusion, what I would say is that the best trainers to buy in 2024 offer a mixture of style, comfort and performance. I really hope this helps you find the best trainers for walking, running and workouts. These truly are all great all rounder trainers. Whether I'm hitting the gym, running errands or simply stepping out in style for a casual girlie meet up, the above have you covered.
