This year, they’ve truly outdone themselves with the Fir & Artemisia Cologne, and as soon as I heard about it, I knew I had to share my thoughts with you all! I didn't think Jo Malone could do a better launch this year after the Jo Malone Paddington Bear Orange Marmalade Cologne  - my favourite Jo Malone launch ever, but the new Jo Malone Christmas collection for 2024 might just be my favourite yet. For those who may not know, Jo Malone London is an iconic British brand renowned for its unique fragrances, elegant packaging, and luxurious products. Known for their signature colognes, Jo Malone blends unexpected ingredients to create timeless, bespoke scents that are both sophisticated and playful and that's what I love about them so much. Whether it’s their classic Lime Basil & Mandarin or the sultry Wood Sage & Sea Salt, Jo Malone has something for everyone. Their scents can be worn alone or layered together to create a fragrance as unique as you are.

Now, let’s talk about the Fir & Artemisia Cologne – Jo Malone’s new limited edition scent for the holiday season. As part of their much anticipated Christmas collection, this cologne captures the essence of a frosted forest during winter. Fir needles and juniper are the standout notes, bringing a fresh, green, and woody vibe, while the artemisia adds a soft herbal touch, grounding the fragrance and making it feel earthy.  

I’ve been wearing this for a few days now, and let me tell you, it’s like walking through a snowy evergreen forest – fresh, crisp, and slightly festive without being too overpowering. It’s perfect for the colder months but would equally work well as a holiday scent. 

What Does Jo Malone's Fir & Artemisia Cologne Smell Like?

• Top notes: Fir balsam and juniper – refreshing, green, and crisp.
• Heart notes: Artemisia – a soft, slightly sweet herbal accord that adds warmth and complexity.
• Base notes: Cedarwood – woody and grounding, it lingers beautifully on the skin.

It has a slightly nostalgic, wintry feel to it, reminds me so much of cosying up, decorating Christmas trees and long walks in the snow which I love so much. I can really smell the fir, which just smells like freshly cut Christmas trees. It's festive but in a gentle way.

I've found that this scent has great longevity, lasting all day without needing to reapply, which is something I really like about Jo Malone's colognes. 

How much does Fir & Artemisia Cologne cost?

This scent is really not badly priced at all with 30ml retailing at £58 and 100ml at £124. 

Is Fir & Artemisia Cologne worth it?

Many people are asking if it's worth the splurge and my opinion is that YES it is and here is why: 

Unique Scent: This isn’t your typical Christmas fragrance. While a lot of holiday colognes lean heavily into sweet or spicy notes, Fir & Artemisia is more refined, focusing on crisp greenery and a soft, herbal twist, just the sort of luxury scent we have become used to with Jo Malone.

Layering Potential: As with all Jo Malone colognes, you can layer this scent with others. Personally, I’ve been pairing it with English Oak & Redcurrant, and the result was a beautifully balanced scent that was both fresh and warm.

Gift-Worthy: If you’re looking for the perfect gift, the stunning limited-edition bottle design (think frosted green glass) is beautiful enough to make it an impressive gift for any Jo Malone lover. 

Gender Neutral: This scent is gender neutral making it suitable for everyone which I love.

How Does It Compare to Other Holiday Scents?

If you’re wondering how this compares to other holiday colognes, here’s a quick rundown:

• Compared to the Jo Malone Orange Bitters, Fir & Artemisia is fresher and more green, whereas Orange Bitters leans more into warm, citrusy notes. The men in my family are obsessed with Jo Malone Orange Bitters.
• It’s also more subtle than something like Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, which has a richer, more intense profile. If  you prefer lighter, more nature-inspired scents, Fir & Artemisia could be the right choice for you.

I’m so in love with this fragrance – it’s festive without being too obvious, fresh yet it gives cosy with the perfect blend of green and woody notes.
