WHAT TO WEAR OVER CHRISTMAS / WHAT TO WEAR ON CHRISTMAS EVE / WHAT TO WEAR ON CHRISTMAS DAY / CHRISTMAS OUTFIT IDEAS

LITTLE BLACK DRESS
Ad affiliate throughout - Christmas truly is the most wonderful time of the year! There’s just something magical about the twinkling lights, the smell of mulled wine, and the festive atmosphere that fills the air. For me, it’s the perfect excuse to go all out with my wardrobe—bring on the sequins, Christmas jumpers and cozy knits! Whether you’re heading to a glamorous party, relaxing with loved ones on Christmas Eve, or celebrating Christmas Day in style, it’s the one time of year where it’s almost a requirement to add a bit of sparkle to your look. Honestly, Christmas is not just about festive cheer; it’s about getting dressed up and feeling amazing while celebrating everything and everyone you love.

EVENING DRESS

Of course, there are so many occasions to dress for over the festive period and I thought it would be good to look at each one in turn and suggest some outfits so here goes:

Dressing for the Christmas Party

I love a Christmas party because they are the perfect excuse to go all out—sequins, velvet, and glam galore. If you’re heading to a cocktail party, opt for a Sparkly little number like this from Never Fully Dressed or a little black dress from Oh Polly together with some statement accessories like these earrings from Monica Vinader. Personally, I’m obsessed with anything that has feather trims or sheer details this season.

If the dress code is less formal, you can’t go wrong with tailored trousers like these from Abercrombie paired with a sparkly top or a luxe satin blouse. Throw on a killer pair of heels, and you’re good to go!

Christmas Eve: Casual and Cozy 🎁

It's been a long standing tradition in our family to have a full family night out on Christmas Eve which usually means another excuse to dress up, but not always, many time we decide we are going to be cute, cozy and comfy.  Think chunky knit jumpers like this one from Reiss paired with faux leather leggings  like these ones from All Saints.  I'm a sucker for a  fun Christmas jumper  - it's always a win and this cute 3-D Bow Jumper from Anthropologie is gorgeous - both festive and classy.

Christmas Day: Festive & Fabulous 🎅

Christmas Day outfits are where it gets tricky because you want to look fab for all those family photos but also comfy enough to devour three helpings of turkey and dessert (and even Yorkshire pudding if you're in my family! ) My go-to is a flowy midi dress like this one from Reiss (hello, no waistbands!) and I love the rich Burgundy tone.

If you prefer a more casual vibe, a smart-casual look with  tailored trousers and a festive knit like this beautiful one from Liberty always works beautifully. To be honest, over the years I have pretty much always ended up in super cozy jams and the fact that you can now get matching family ones is a bonus.  I'm loving the Chelsea Peers ones ones and you can even involve the Family Dog.

Pro Tip: Accessories Make the Outfit

No matter what you decide to wear, I always find accessories can take your look from simple to spectacular. This year, I’m loving chunky gold earringshair bows for a festive twist, and classic Scarves or sophisticated Capes to elevate any outfit while providing warmth too.

Final Thoughts: Wear What Makes You Happy 💖

Christmas is all about feeling good—whether that’s wrapped up in a cozy knit or rocking a full-on sequined dress. Pick something that makes you feel confident and joyful, and don’t stress too much. After all, the best accessory is your presence and a big smile.   Have a lovely time.

Lots of love, Em x
