Spring weddings are just magical, aren’t they? I'm going to a very special one this year and seem to have been going to Spring weddings for etenity and, as a romantic at heart, I'm here for them. Everything is in bloom, the weather is (hopefully) mild, and there’s something so fresh and romantic about the season. It's the perfect excuse to embrace soft pastels, bold florals, or even a pop of cheerful colour that screams springtime chic.
But, let’s be honest, figuring out what to wear at a spring wedding as a female guest can feel a little tricky. Spring weather is unpredictable—it could be warm and sunny one minute, breezy and cool the next. So, how do we balance looking stylish while also being prepared for all the elements? Here I give some tips on how to dress for success.
The Classic Floral Dress 🌺
When it comes to what to wear at a spring wedding as a female guest, you can’t go wrong with florals. I know it’s a bit of a cliché (cue Miranda Priestly voice in The Devil Wears Prada: “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking”), but who cares, they just work!
Think:
- Light, flowy fabrics like chiffon or silk that’ll keep you cool and comfortable.
- Midi or tea-length dresses that look elegant without being too formal.
- Bold or pastel prints to match the season's vibe.
My top picks:
- Revolve always has stunning floral options like this Bardot Triple Frill Dress which I totally adore.
- ASOS is great for affordable dresses that look designer like this gorgeous Asos Design Flutter Sleeve Maxi Dress
- Reformation does the dreamiest sustainably-made florals like this Aiko Dress which frankly I could order right now because it's stunning.
- MyTheresa is a great choice for going designer and this Rixo Rio Ruffled Floral Maxi Dress will make a real statement and is an absolutely gorgeous colour.
- Reiss are always a go-to of mine and I'm always loving a halter neck. The bold coloured Arina Silk Halterneck Midi Dress would compliment anyone.
Can I wear trousers as a female wedding guest?
Considering what to wear as a wedding guest conjours up thoughts of dresses and soft pastels in most people's minds—think blush pinks, baby blues, mint greens, and lilacs. These hues are flattering on every skin tone and feel effortlessly feminine. However, keep an open mind and don't rule out bold colours and trousers suits - many people want colour at their wedding and vibrancy and many people don't have a strict dress code so you may be able to rock it with your favourite jumpsuit.
Outfit ideas:
- A sleek jumpsuit like this beautiful red Lovers and Friends Ketchum Jumpsuit could be ideal if your bride and bridegroom request a colourful affair.
- A two piece trouser suit like this more subtle Reformation Allein Satin Two Piece in lemon for those who prefer pastel colours would be stunning.
- Or what about a double breasted blazer in baby blue with matching wide legged trousers
What accessories should I wear as a wedding guest? ✨
When deciding what to wear to a spring wedding as a female guest, don’t forget about accessories. They can elevate your outfit from and give you the WoW factor!
- Go for a dainty clutch bag or mini shoulder bag. Pricey though it might be, this Saint Laurent shoulder bag has served me for so many occasions I've lost count and it looks classy with everything. You don't have to break the bank though, many shops sell really elegant handbags for much less and I love this little baby pink faux leather mini tote from River Island and this Mango Shoulder Bag.
- Add a pair of statement earrings—pearl or floral-inspired designs work beautifully for spring like these Round Pearl Small Hoop Earrings from Monica Vinader along with this gorgeous Fiji Bud Cuff.
- A very important tip is to opt for comfortable yet stylish heels or wedges (trust me, sinking into the grass in stilettos is not a vibe). These Tom Ford wedges are divine and these Revolve Akita Heel will look stylish with anything. For a lower price point these Cream Bow Sling Back Pumps for Charles and Keith are adorable.
Should I wear a hat as a guest at a wedding?
I adore hats and we just don't get enough opportunities to wear them so when it comes to a wedding you will always find me in one. Wearing a hat at a wedding can be a stylish and practical choice, adding a touch of elegance while offering shade for outdoor ceremonies. From timeless wide-brim hats (that, by the way I am totally in love with) to modern fascinators or cute pillbox styles, there are endless options to complement your outfit and to fit with the wedding dress code. When choosing a hat, consider the venue, season and colour palette. A soft pastel hat or floral headpiece would work beautifully for a Spring wedding. Here are some suggestions to get you started:

Spring weather is unpredictable—so always have a backup! Consider layering with:
- A light, tailored blazer in a matching or neutral shade is a great shout - try one from Hobbs like this Blake Cotton Blend Jacket or the Roberta Linen Jacket which are both versatile and will compliment any outfit.
- Alternatively a chic pashmina shawl to drape over your shoulders or a short fluffy bolero or thin knit like the Salama Lightweight Knitted Jacket will provide some much needed warmth.
- A trench coat (perfect if rain’s in the forecast) like this oversized cotton blend belted coat could be a great idea.
- There are some wonderful umbrella's around for weddings and If I was going to an outdoor wedding where rain was forecast I would definitely treat myself to this one from Lulu Guinness or a more discreet one like the small night star one from the White Company.
Don't Forget About Comfort
While it’s fun to go all out, remember when deciding what to wear at a Spring wedding you’ll be wearing this outfit for hours—so comfort is key. Choose breathable fabrics, walkable shoes, and styles that let you eat, drink, and dance without worry. Because let’s be honest, who can resist wedding cake and a good boogie? 🕺
